Jean-Baptiste Bourgeois 
Blacksmith and Sheep Farmer

Grandpa was a Blacksmith and Sheep Farmer in the old city of St. Anthony (St. Anthony Falls was the original in Minneapolis, MN).  He said he could have bought the whole Nicollet Island for $50.  "But what would I have done with that?  It would be hard to farm."

Grandpa Bourgeois was a lively man and favorably known throughout the area.  His grandfather was also a blacksmith and sheep farmer.  His last farm was on the Mississippi River at the bend near the Bouley farms.   This is the best view of the Mississippi overlooking the river where it splits, like an island.  In all, a beautiful landscaped area.  His son, Horace and Lucy (Fisette) Bourgeois owned and worked the farm until Horace's untimely death in 1913.  Aunt Lucy and the family continued on until 19__ when she had to sell this beautiful piece of property.  It was then owned and updated by Win Stevens, owner of a large car dealership in Minneapolis, MN.  Lillian (Oberg) Bourgois worked for the Stevens family as a housekeeper.
